Northern Beaches Hospital has appointed Andrew Newton as Chief Executive Officer, effective from 2 September 2019.

Mr Newton is a highly experienced health executive, with a career spanning more than 25 years. He has a strong background across a diverse range of areas within health, including major hospital management, and brings proven public sector experience to NBH.

“I am excited to be joining Northern Beaches Hospital and look forward to working with such a talented team,” Mr Newton said.

“This is a great opportunity to capitalise on the hard work which has been done over the past six months, and continue to demonstrate the commitment to the provision of high quality care to the local Northern Beaches community, and within the broader health system.”

Mr Newton’s most recent role was CEO of Southern NSW Local Health District where he oversaw the public healthcare of more than 200,000 residents across 10 regional hospitals.

He formed constructive relationships with State government, improved engagement with clinical teams across the local health district and rebuilt robust and healthy industrial relations with staff and unions.

One of Mr Newton’s strengths is his commitment to engaging regularly with local communities.

Prior to his role at the Southern NSW Local Health District, Mr Newton had an impressive career in hospital management. Among other roles, he spent three years as General Manager of Westmead and Auburn hospitals (1,000 beds combined), three years as General Manager of Blacktown and Mt Druitt hospitals, and fulfilled the same role at Dubbo Base Hospital.
