Healthscope announces major expansion of Nepean Private Hospital

Healthscope Limited (Healthscope) today announced a major expansion of its Nepean Private Hospital in Western Sydney. A new dedicated endoscopy suite and new strata title medical consulting suites will be constructed on land adjacent to the existing hospital.

Healthscope’s Chief Executive Officer Gordon Ballantyne said that the expansion of Nepean Private Hospital would substantially increase the hospitals day procedure capacity as well as meet the growing demand of doctors for consulting suites currently not available in the region.

“Western Sydney is one of Australia’s major growth corridors and the location of Nepean Private—with a direct link-way to nearby Nepean Public Hospital—positions it perfectly to be a vital future healthcare provider in the region,” he said.

“Today we are announcing stage 1 of our master plan for the hospital and ultimately our goal is to double the capacity at the hospital within the next decade. Stage 1 will create a strong platform for future expansion in the medium term in a key growth corridor in Sydney.

“At the same time, the co-located Nepean Public Hospital has recently commenced a $600 million expansion of services that will be delivered over the next three years. The simultaneous growth of both the private and public hospitals will substantially strengthen healthcare provision in Western Sydney.

“Healthscope is committed to providing patients with the best possible experience and we have set ourselves the goal to be the market leader in both clinical care outcomes and the delivery of exceptional patient care. The expansion of Nepean Private reflects our ambitions in this respect: we will improve our offer for doctors as well as create a dual theatre state-of-the-art endoscopy suite, both ultimately delivering a major improvement in our patient care and overall experience.”

Nepean Private Hospital General Manager Simon Rodger said “The construction of brand new dedicated endoscopy theatres will create additional capacity in the existing hospital’s main operating theatres that will allow us to introduce an improved surgical case-mix at the hospital. Importantly there will be no disruption to operations at hospital as the future development will be occurring alongside the hospital on land recently purchased by Healthscope.”

“I know our loyal doctors who practice at Nepean will be extremely pleased with the decision to expand the hospital and provide additional consulting suites and we are thrilled to now be in a position to offer them the opportunity to direct invest in Nepean Private,” he said.

Pending relevant town planning approvals, Healthscope anticipates construction will commence on the new facilities at Nepean Private in July 2019 and conclude in August 2020.
