Frontline medicine on the Northern Beaches to work closer than ever before

Healthcare on the Northern Beaches will receive a significant boost with a new Healthscope medical centre adjacent to the emergency department of the new Northern Beaches Hospital.

Healthscope’s 50-bed emergency department will be co-located with a medical centre enabling patients to see GPs on the hospital site.

The community can use the medical centre as their regular GP service, with bulk billing available and potential for 24/7 operating hours.

Local emergency department Nursing Unit Manager Jo Watts said: “I think it’s fantastic that we’ll have frontline emergency care working closer than ever before with GPs on the Northern Beaches and that can only benefit the patient.

“The medical centre will be able to deal with all sorts of injuries and illnesses such as sprained ankles and minor lacerations that require stitching. If these type of patients can be helped by a GP, this also helps to reduce the emergency department waiting times for patients.”

The medical centre will have access to the latest equipment and technology, plus medical imaging, pathology and pharmacy.

All hospital services, including the emergency department and medical centre, will open in late 2018.
