This certainly shows clear foresight in healthcare planning for the future,†said The Hon Greg Hunt MP.
Five years in the making, the hospital came about by a shared idea between Healthscope and Holmesglen TAFE to provide a premier training hospital for nursing and allied health students.
"Together Healthscope and Holmesglen TAFE have provided future health care leaders with a state of the art training hospital,†explains Mr Cooke.
The hospital, which cost in excess of $100 million, comprises of eight operating theatres including a catheter laboratory, intensive and coronary care units, emergency department as well as supporting radiology, pathology and pharmacy services, welcomed its first patients in January 2017.
“It has been a long road to open. With this location previously being a training hotel for Holmesglen TAFE students, we have spent the last five years planning, expanding and constructing, making it fit for purpose as a leading private hospital,†Mr Cooke said.
Holmesglen Private Hospital is one of the largest employers in the area, employing over 500 staff in clinical and non-clinical roles, as well as partnering with 500 doctors to provide care to the tens of thousands local patients requiring medical assistance.
“With the next closest emergency department 15km away, Holmesglen Private will provide world-class hospital services to local residents, dramatically reducing their need to seek healthcare out of their local area, “said Mr Cooke.
A continued development plan is in place to allow Holmesglen Private to grow to approximately 250 beds, 11 operating theatres and a 20 bay emergency department in line with demand.
